Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has firmly rejected a series of claims circulating on social media, among them allegations that he instructed Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua to convene a high-profile political meeting for leaders from the Mt Kenya region.
In a statement released by his office on Thursday, January 29, 2026, Uhuru termed the online reports linking him to the alleged mobilisation efforts as “false and misleading,” and cautioned members of the public against spreading unverified content attributed to him.
The communication, issued by his Secretary of Communication Kanze Dena Mararo, stressed that the messages being shared online were not authorised and did not represent Uhuru’s stance on Mt Kenya political affairs or any current political activities.
“The Office of the 4th President, Uhuru Kenyatta, has observed with concern the deliberate circulation of false and misleading content on social media platforms,” the statement read.
Official channels only
Uhuru’s office further emphasised that any formal communication from the retired Head of State would strictly be conveyed through verified platforms associated with the Office of the 4th President or through official Jubilee Party channels.
“We urge all citizens to exercise vigilance, verify information before sharing, and avoid amplifying falsehoods that erode public trust. The dignity of the Office of the 4th President of the Republic of Kenya remains paramount,” the statement added.

The clarification came in response to widely shared claims suggesting that Uhuru had privately advised Gachagua to organise his political allies ahead of a planned meeting aimed at forging unity among Mt Kenya leaders to tackle the region’s political concerns.
Another viral message, dated January 26 and also falsely attributed to Uhuru, alleged that the former President was unwell and troubled by the country’s political trajectory, including reports of children being teargassed in church settings.
Mt Kenya pand Jubilee changes
These denials emerge against the backdrop of heightened political activity in the Mt Kenya region, where Gachagua has been actively campaigning to consolidate the region’s influential voting bloc under his leadership.
Despite the speculation, Uhuru has appeared to keep his distance from Gachagua’s political camp, previously stating that his Jubilee Party will back former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i in the 2027 presidential race.
As political alignments ahead of the 2027 General Election continue to take shape, Jubilee Party recently unveiled a raft of leadership changes. The party named Jeremiah Kioni as Deputy Party Leader during a meeting held last Thursday.

In a separate statement dated Thursday, January 22, Jubilee announced that former Narok Member of Parliament Richard Ole Kenta had been appointed Secretary General, taking over from Kioni. Other approved appointments include Zack Kinuthia as Deputy Secretary General, Yassin Noor Haji as National Organising Secretary, and Vincent Mogaka Kimoki as Chairperson.
Additional changes saw Dan Mwangi named Executive Director, Kiembi Gitura appointed Director of Elections, Peter Kados selected as Chair of the MCA Caucus, and Saitoti Torome designated as Jubilee Foundation Public Policy Director
