Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has claimed that she was summoned by police in Kiambu County, a move she believes is politically driven.
According to the MP, the County Criminal Investigations Officer contacted her via phone, asking her to record a statement just a day before President William Ruto’s scheduled visit to her constituency.
Wamuchomba made the revelation on her verified X account, linking the summons to growing discontent among Githunguri residents over unmet promises. “The great people of Githunguri refused to be lured by fake promises and projects that never materialized,” she wrote. “Arrests you can do, but that will not change the facts!”
The timing of the summons has raised eyebrows, coming mere hours before Ruto’s visit, which marks the end of his week-long tour of the Mt. Kenya region — his first since the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Ruto concludes Mt Kenya tour amid political tension
President Ruto is set to inspect major projects in Kiambu, including the ongoing Mau Mau Roads in Nyanduma, Lari, and the Githunguri County Integrated Industrial Park. Elsewhere, during the tour, he launched an affordable housing project in Ruringu, Nyeri, and opened a fresh produce market in Othaya.
Despite concerns over growing dissatisfaction in the region, analysts say the President’s Mt. Kenya tour has proceeded without major disruptions.

However, incidents like Wamuchomba’s police summons reflect deeper political undercurrents, particularly among leaders sympathetic to Rigathi Gachagua.
Wamuchomba, a staunch Gachagua ally, has been vocal in her criticism of the Kenya Kwanza administration. Her summoning adds to the perception that dissenting voices in Mt. Kenya are facing increased pressure.
In what is seen as a move to reclaim ground in Kiambu, Ruto recently appointed former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo as Cabinet Secretary for ICT. Other leaders such as Governor Kimani Wamatangi have also pledged their loyalty to the President.
