Githunguri MP Gathoni wa Wamuchomba has unveiled an ambitious and transformative vision for Kenya, declaring her dream to one day lead the country as President.
Through a post on her X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday, April 20, 2025, Wamuchomba passionately outlined a grassroots-driven economic strategy anchored in cottage industries, value addition, and sustainable development.
“One day I will lead this country,” she began, expressing her confidence and aspirations. “I will turn around available labour into riches. I will create cottage industries and subsidize power. Every home with a backyard will produce a product for domestic consumption.”
According to the MP, her presidency would focus on empowering households to become small-scale producers of essential goods such as toothpicks, spoons, pots, towels, and belts. Her plan involves the establishment of Cottage Special Zones, which would benefit from reduced power and water tariffs to spur local manufacturing.
Empowering communities through cottage industries
Wamuchomba also promised to introduce a National Symposium for Cottage Industry, which would bring together innovators and producers for knowledge exchange, policy dialogue, and industry recognition. “I will create a national award system for the best cottage industry innovators,” she said, highlighting the importance of celebrating local ingenuity.
Her vision includes setting up a Cottage Fund for Incubation in every county, aimed at supporting startups and small-scale manufacturers. In a bold move to utilize underused public spaces, she proposed converting idle stadiums into vibrant evening cottage markets operating from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m., supported by dedicated cleaning squads.

To ensure the success of her proposed programs, Wamuchomba said she would deploy extension officers across the country to evaluate progress, offer technical assistance, and ensure quality production standards are met. She further pledged to revamp the Kenya Industrial Estates (KIE) and inject funds to market Kenyan cottage products internationally.
Wamuchomba’s industrialization plan also includes banning the export of raw agricultural products such as macadamia nuts, coffee, and tea. Instead, she would push for local processing to increase value and generate more income for farmers. “We will not export raw macadamia, coffee, or tea. We will process locally and sell final goods,” she emphasized.
In agriculture, she promised to revive the Agricultural Mechanization Unit to support value addition, particularly for rural producers.
On women’s empowerment, Wamuchomba pledged support for local innovation in beauty and hygiene products. “Kenyan women will wear wigs made locally from banana fibres and other biodegradable materials. All sanitary towels will be manufactured here using eco-friendly fibres,” she stated.
Despite the grand vision, the Githunguri legislator acknowledged the uphill task of turning her dream into reality, citing financial constraints. “Who will make me a president? I have no money to campaign,” she wrote candidly.

Her declaration sparked reactions across social media, with supporters lauding her bold ideas while others questioned the feasibility of her proposals.
Wamuchomba’s statement adds her name to the growing list of politicians eyeing Kenya’s top seat, setting the stage for future political debate around homegrown industrialization and economic empowerment.
By the time of going to press, she was yet to respond to Newsflash’s enquiries on if she will be vying for Kenya’s presidency in 2027.
Wamuchomba is a close ally of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
