Thika MP Alice Ng’ang’a has urged residents of Magogoni in Thika East to give her a chance to contest for the Kiambu gubernatorial seat.
Ms Ng’ang’a, popularly known as “Mama Simba”, said she was ready to transform the lives of Kiambu residents in a unique way.
She said the health sector in Kiambu County had deteriorated significantly over the years and that her main agenda would be to restore the sector and address the challenges facing it.
She also urged young people to shun illicit alcohol, which she said was ruining the lives of many youths.
“I know the biggest problem at the moment is unemployment among young people. Therefore, if I am given the opportunity to become governor, I will provide youths with funding to start businesses that can help them earn a living,” she said.
Ms Ng’ang’a said Kiambu County needed a female leader, noting that several other counties had elected women governors.
“For example, there is Cecily Mbarire in Embu, Gladys Wanga in Homa Bay, Anne Waiguru in Kirinyaga and Wavinya Ndeti in Machakos,” she said.
She pledged that if elected governor, she would push for an increase in the monthly support given to elderly residents from Sh2,000 to Sh4,000.
She said her main agenda at the moment was to tour different parts of Kiambu County to interact with residents and understand their needs.
She said she had already visited Lari, Limuru, Kabete, Kikuyu and Gatundu.
Gakuyo backs government
Archbishop of Calvary Chosen Centre Church David Ngari Gakuyo, who is seeking the Thika parliamentary seat, urged residents to support the government, citing the development projects it has undertaken.
“The truth is that we are in government and we can see the development it has undertaken. Therefore, let us not be misled,” the cleric said.

He said there was no reason for them to pretend to be in the Opposition when there was little they could point to as having been achieved by the Opposition.
“Mama Simba and I fought hard for the Thika parliamentary seat in 2022, although I emerged second,” he said.
He said they would now campaign together in support of the current administration.
Kogi, Jama seek support
Kiambu senatorial aspirant Investor Kogi urged residents of Magogoni, Thika East, to elect him as their senator so that he could work together with Ms Ng’ang’a and Bishop Gakuyo to promote development in Kiambu.
He also advised young people to avoid illicit alcohol, which he said was destroying the lives of many youths in the Mt Kenya region.
“Young people, be very careful and avoid engaging in activities that will ruin your lives. Do things that will improve your livelihoods,” Mr Kogi said.

He appealed to Kiambu residents to give him an opportunity to serve as their senator.
“I will continue accompanying Mama Simba as we seek votes from residents,” he said.
Ngoliba Ward representative Joachim Jama thanked residents for electing him for a second term, describing the gesture as a great honour.
He urged them to elect him for a third term to enable him to fulfil the promises he had made previously.
He said he would continue working closely with Thika MP Ms Ng’ang’a because they had come a long way together.
“I understand the challenges facing Ngoliba residents, but through working together with Mama Simba, I am confident that things will be fine,” he said.
He also urged young people to be careful with their lives and avoid engaging in activities that could jeopardise their future.
