A joint operation by police and Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officers on Monday, May 19, 2025, targeted the private residence of Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya in Kitale. The early-morning raid, conducted under tight security, has ignited political uproar across the region and beyond.
Eyewitnesses report that the operation began just before sunrise, with law enforcement personnel arriving in multiple vehicles and securing the area surrounding the governor’s Milimani estate home. The raid’s official purpose remains unconfirmed, though speculation is rife that it is linked to a pending anti-corruption probe.
Within minutes, scores of the governor’s supporters gathered outside the property, chanting slogans in support of the “Tawe Movement” and accusing the state of persecuting Natembeya due to his outspoken criticism of the current administration.

Security officers had to reinforce their presence to contain the growing crowd, which accused the government of using the EACC to stifle political opposition. “This isn’t justice—it’s a public humiliation meant to send a message,” shouted one protester.
Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka added fuel to the fire the previous day during a rally in Machakos, where he claimed authorities had secured a warrant to search Natembeya’s properties as part of a political witch hunt. “This is an attempt to discredit a governor who dares to speak against those in power,” Kalonzo said, urging constitutional bodies to act independently.
Governor Natembeya has recently clashed with national leadership over key policy issues, positioning himself as a central figure in opposition politics from the Western region. Last week, he was denied access to Nzoia Sugar Company alongside former Defence CS Eugene Wamalwa and several MPs, further escalating political tensions.

Despite the dramatic events, Natembeya’s office has not yet released an official statement regarding the raid. As the country watches closely, the unfolding events raise serious questions about the use of law enforcement in Kenya’s political arena—and whether justice is being served or manipulated.
