Leshau Pondo MCA Kamau Gathungu has launched a fierce attack against Nyandarua Woman Representative Faith Gitau, accusing her of hypocrisy and underperformance following her criticism of his development record.
Speaking on Tuesday, June 10, at Kamukunji during the burial of Michael Kihara, a respected and long-serving veterinary doctor from Leshau Centre, Gathungu dismissed Gitau’s remarks, saying she lacked any tangible accomplishments despite having served in office for years.
Kihara, the late veterinarian, was well-known throughout the area for his commitment to livestock care since graduating from college.
It was during this somber event that Gathungu seized the moment to respond to the recent attacks on his leadership credentials.
Gathungu, who has declared his intention to run for the Ndaragwa parliamentary seat in the 2027 elections, accused Gitau of focusing on rhetoric rather than real results.
He said she has little to show for her years in office, especially in terms of meaningful infrastructure and social development.
Gitau had earlier accused the MCA of politicking and neglecting his roles.
“What has (Faith) done for the seven years that she has been elected? What can she show of? She can’t show any road she has constructed or a home she has helped access water!” Gathungu charged, amid cheers from the crowd.
He went on to criticize Gitau for what he described as token gestures instead of sustainable impact in her constituency.
“The only thing she has achieved is bringing beans and rice to the residents of Nyakinyua…we shall call out non-performing leaders until they style up.”
Gachagua, roads and electricity demand
Gathungu extended his criticism to Ndaragwa MP George Gachagua, whom he faulted for failing to provide leadership and development feedback to the people.
According to Gathungu, the constituents of Ndaragwa deserve clarity on several pressing matters, especially concerning electricity and road projects that remain incomplete or stagnant.
“We were elected with a lot of hope. For instance, the Honourable Gachagua [Ndaragwa MP] ought to be here elaborating to the locals the achievements he has made in providing electricity. Some of the questions he is supposed to answer are: When will Kamukunji residents get electricity? Given that the Ndogino Road was tarmacked, when will the Kamukunji-Karampton road be tarmacked? When will be the Gwa Kung’u -Pesi Road be tarmacked? We just want the government of the day to work for us.”

He added that local leadership must be proactive in pressing the national government to meet its promises to the people. Gathungu made it clear that those who fail to perform should not expect a free pass at the ballot come 2027.

“If it will not, we will not hesitate to spread the ‘One term’ gospel,” he declared to a round of applause.
Gathungu’s sharp criticism and assertive tone marked a clear departure from the typical political decorum at funerals, highlighting his determination to shake up the region’s political dynamics as he positions himself as a leader unafraid to speak truth to power.
Demands for justice in blogger Ojwang’s murder
Switching to national matters, Gathungu also addressed the unresolved and controversial killing of blogger Albert Ojwang’.
He called for transparency and accountability, urging the government to reveal the identities of those involved in the gruesome murder and to ensure they are removed from office.
“Those who participated in the brutal killing of blogger Albert Ojwang’ must be named. Why are they not being named for the public to know them? They should be sacked from their positions so that those who have intentions of committing such crimes in future should beware.”

Gathungu took a bold step in holding the highest office accountable, asserting that the President William Ruto bears ultimate responsibility for the state of lawlessness and repression affecting citizens.
“Dear Mr President, please stop killing the children of this country because the bulk stops with you. Only the President can stop these killings.”
He decried the rising cases of enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and intimidation of dissenting voices, vowing to continue speaking out regardless of the consequences.
“We have lamented so much about these killings and abductions. We shall keep speaking out without fearing the repercussions because the MPs we elected joined the President’s ‘Mr Yes, Sir’ choir.”
