The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has revealed that suspects linked to the murder of prominent city lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu met him hours before his death.
Mbobu was shot dead on Tuesday, September 9, along Magadi Road by gunmen on a motorcycle, moments after leaving his office in Nairobi.
Meeting before murder
According to detectives, the slain lawyer held a meeting with two individuals at Sarget Hotel between 11:00 am and 1:15 pm on the day he was killed. The two have since been questioned at DCI headquarters, and their vehicles impounded as part of the probe.
Investigators are examining phone data and car movements to establish whether the suspects trailed Mbobu to the crime scene.

CCTV footage
CCTV clips captured Mbobu leaving his office at Town House on Kaunda Street at 5:14 pm. Another man, dressed in black, was spotted exiting the same lift and later seen outside the building making a phone call before abruptly ending it as Mbobu walked past.
Detectives believe the man could be linked to the killers and are pursuing him.
Government response
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen said the government is working to uncover the motive behind the lawyer’s murder.
“I am happy to note that the persons of interest have been identified. They are being interrogated, and many more will be sought,” he said.

Autopsy findings
A postmortem led by Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor revealed that Mbobu died from excessive bleeding after sustaining eight gunshot wounds, including injuries to the spine and neck.
The DCI has appealed to members of the public with information to come forward, saying all leads are being pursued to ensure the killers are brought to justice.
