President William Ruto is set to embark on an extensive tour of the Mt Kenya region starting April 1, 2025.
According to a program seen by Newsflash, the tour will cover eight counties, with a primary focus on commissioning electrification projects and launching infrastructure initiatives.
The tour is expected to strengthen the government’s development agenda in the region and reinforce Ruto’s political influence.
Day 1: Laikipia and Nyeri counties (April 1, 2025)
President Ruto will begin his tour in Laikipia County, where he will flag off projects funded by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD), the European Investment Bank (EIB), and the European Union (EU) in Rumuruti. The Kenya Power team will be on-site to provide a project briefing and ensure visibility of the initiative.

In the afternoon, he will proceed to Nyeri County, where he is scheduled to commission the Gikamba last-mile electrification program in Kieni. The Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC) will oversee the event, with a focus on enhancing connectivity for local businesses and households.
Day 2: Meru and Kirinyaga counties (April 2, 2025)
The second day of the tour will kick off in Meru County, where Ruto will commission the Nkuene sub-station in Imenti South and launch AFD/EU/EIB projects in the region. The development is expected to improve power distribution and support economic activities in the county.
Later, the President will head to Kirinyaga County, where he will flag off AFD/EU/EIB projects at Kagio Market. Additionally, REREC will oversee the electrification of the County Aggregation and Industrial Park (CAIP) and the Export Processing Zone (EPZ) in Kirinyaga to support local industries.
Day 3: Nyandarua and Murang’a counties (April 3, 2025)
On the morning of April 3, President Ruto will be in Nyandarua County to launch more AFD/EU/EIB-funded projects in Ol Kalou. The projects aim to expand electricity access and boost the local economy.
In the afternoon, he will visit Murang’a County, where he will flag off similar projects in Maragwa. Kenya Power will ensure the visibility of the projects and mobilization of key stakeholders.
Day 4: Tharaka Nithi and Embu counties (April 4, 2025)
The President’s morning engagement will be in Tharaka Nithi County, where he will commission a last-mile electrification program in Mitheru, Maara Constituency. REREC will organize a commercial activity to engage local leaders and residents.

In the afternoon, he will head to Embu County, where he will flag off AFD/EU/EIB projects in Embu town market. Additionally, REREC will ensure the electrification of the County Aggregation and Industrial Park (CAIP) in Embu, further enhancing local business growth.
Day 5: Nyeri and Kiambu counties (April 5, 2025)
On the final day of his tour, President Ruto will return to Nyeri County in the morning to launch AFD/EU/EIB projects at Ruring’u. The event will also include the laying of the foundation for a new school at an affordable housing site, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to education and housing initiatives.
The tour will conclude in Kiambu County, where REREC will provide an update on electrification projects in Lari Constituency.
