Nation Media Group (NMG) has announced a raft of changes to its editorial leadership across Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania as part of a review of its editorial structure and evolving business requirements in the region.
The changes, announced by Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Geoffrey Odundo, take effect immediately and affect senior editorial positions across the media organisation’s operations.
In Kenya, Harry Misiko has been appointed Acting Editor-in-Chief, taking charge of the Group’s editorial operations in the country.
Dann Mwangi will serve as Acting Managing Editor, Broadcast and New Media, while John Kiplagat takes up the position of Acting Managing Editor, Publishing.
Justus Wanga has been appointed Acting Lead Editor, Weekend Edition, while Michael Owuor becomes Acting Lead Editor, Daily Nation.
Other changes include the appointment of Ben Kitili as Acting Lead Editor, Broadcasting, Michael Omondi as Acting Lead Editor, Business Daily, and Alex Ndegwa as Editor, Content Hub.
Changes across the region
In Uganda, Dr Joe Ageyo has been appointed Editor-in-Chief of NMG Uganda, while Washington Gikunju will serve as Acting Managing Editor.
Ageyo previously held senior editorial responsibilities within NMG and has extensive experience in journalism and newsroom leadership.
In Tanzania, James Smart has been appointed Acting Managing Editor, Broadcast and New Media, at Mwananchi Communications Limited, which operates under the NMG umbrella.
The latest changes come as media organisations across the region continue to adapt their editorial structures and operations amid changes in audience consumption, digital publishing and the broader media business environment.
In his communication to staff, Odundo congratulated the appointed editors and urged colleagues across the Group to support them as they transition into their respective roles.

The announcement brings together a mix of experienced editors and newsroom leaders in key positions overseeing print, digital, broadcast and content operations.
NMG, one of East Africa’s largest media organisations, operates a range of media platforms across the region, including newspapers, television, radio and digital products.
The Group publishes the Daily Nation, Business Daily and other publications in Kenya, while its regional operations include Mwananchi Communications Limited in Tanzania and NMG Uganda.
The new appointments are expected to take effect immediately, with the appointed officials assuming their respective responsibilities as the Group implements the revised editorial structure.
The changes affect several of NMG’s most prominent editorial desks, including the Daily Nation, Business Daily, broadcasting, weekend publishing and the Content Hub.
