The Ministry of Education has opened an additional review window for Grade 10 Senior School placements, offering learners and parents a fresh chance to request changes to initial allocations.
The first round of revisions concluded on December 29, 2025, after which joining instructions for placed learners were uploaded to the placement portal, www.placement.education.go.ke, effective December 30, 2025.
The ministry has indicated that learners seeking reconsideration can submit applications for a further review between January 6 and January 9, 2026. This process will allow parents, guardians, and learners to provide legitimate and verifiable reasons supporting the reconsideration of either the initial or revised placement.

“As previously stated, interested learners will have a further opportunity to apply for review of their placement from 6th January, 2026, to 9th January, 2026. The revision will enable parents, guardians, and learners to present legitimate and verifiable grounds to justify reconsideration of the initial or revised placement,” the ministry said in part.
The initiative aims to ensure uninterrupted access to education, maximise school capacity, and resolve outstanding placement issues. Review requests may be submitted through a learner’s Junior School or the Senior School of interest, and all applications must be forwarded by institution heads via the placement portal in accordance with established protocols.
Total applications received
During the initial revision, the ministry received 355,457 applications, approving 211,636 while declining the remainder. Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, on December 30, 2025, explained that many requests were rejected due to either unavailable subject combinations or limited space in the selected schools.
The ministry has confirmed that all basic education institutions will reopen for Term One of the 2026 academic year on Monday, January 5.

Regional and County Directors of Education have been instructed to supervise school reopening and ensure adherence to the approved academic calendar.
The ongoing placement review is part of the broader transition to senior school under the Competency-Based Curriculum, which identifies Grade 10 as the entry point to senior secondary education. Parents and guardians are urged to adhere strictly to official placement procedures and timelines to avoid disruptions as schools reopen for the 2026 academic year.
