The Ministry of Education has released Grade 10 placement results for candidates who sat the 2025 Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment (KJSEA).
Parents and guardians can access their children’s placement details by sending the learner’s KNEC assessment number via SMS to 22263 or by logging onto the ministry’s online portal at placements.education.go.ke.
Learners placed in senior secondary schools are expected to report to their respective institutions by Monday, January 12, 2026.
Automated placement process
According to the Ministry, the placement exercise was conducted through a fully automated system. The process considered several factors, including learners’ school choices, performance in the KJSEA, psychometric assessment outcomes, equity considerations and the available capacity in senior schools.
“The top performers in each STEM, social sciences and arts pathway will be given priority placement in their preferred boarding schools,” the Ministry said.

The KJSEA results were officially released on Thursday, December 11. The assessment was administered between October 27 and November 3 to determine the preparedness of the first cohort under the Competency-Based Education (CBE) system.
In total, 1,130,459 learners sat the assessment, comprising 578,630 boys and 551,829 girls.
Replacement requests and reporting
The Ministry further noted that parents and learners who wish to change schools may apply for replacement through a formal process. Such applications must be submitted via junior school heads at least two weeks before the Grade 10 reporting date.
However, the process will only proceed after senior schools declare available vacancies through their respective county directors of education. The Ministry clarified that the replacement exercise will be conducted once and that its outcome will be final.

Once approved, joining instructions will be issued exclusively online. The Ministry cautioned that “at no time shall a school issue printed letters for replacement cases.”
It added that all officers involved in the process are required to work collaboratively to ensure fairness and credibility, guaranteeing a smooth transition of learners from junior to senior secondary school.
Despite the rollout, some parents and learners have raised concerns, saying the SMS system has been experiencing delays and is not generating placement results instantly.
