Former Deputy President and Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has led leaders and Kenyans in mourning the death of Mr. John Muhia Njoroge, the father of Kipipiri Member of Parliament Wanjiku Muhia.
Mr Njoroge passed away on December 29, 2025, at 8:00pm, after a long and courageous 12-year battle with kidney failure. His death was announced by the MP through a family statement released on December 30, 2025, triggering an outpouring of condolences from political leaders, friends and residents of Kipipiri and Nyandarua County.
Family announces death
In an emotional statement, the MP said the family was deeply saddened by the loss of their beloved father, describing him as a pillar of strength whose faith remained unshaken throughout his illness.
“It is with profound sadness that my family and I announce the passing of our beloved father, Mr. John Muhia Njoroge,” the statement read. “Dad went to be with the Lord last night, December 29th, at 8:00 PM, after a courageous twelve-year battle with kidney failure.”

The MP noted that while the family’s hearts were heavy with grief, they found comfort in the belief that he had lived a full life and fought bravely until the end. “Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we find comfort in knowing that he fought a good fight and has finished his race well,” she said.
The family appealed for prayers and support during the difficult moment, adding that details regarding funeral and memorial arrangements would be communicated in due course. The statement concluded with a touching tribute: “Rest peacefully Dad, until we meet again.”
Gachagua leads condolences
In his condolence message, Mr. Gachagua described the late Mr. Njoroge as a man of courage and resilience, saying his long battle with illness was a testimony of strength and perseverance.
“The late Njoroge Muhia demonstrated courage and great resilience in life, having had a twelve-year battle with kidney failure,” Gachagua said. “The people of Kipipiri have lost a champion and a family man who brought forth a great leader, as Hon. Wanjiku Muhia and her siblings have demonstrated.”

The former Deputy President said he stood with the bereaved family and the people of Kipipiri during the painful period, offering prayers for peace, comfort and strength. “My family and I send our deepest sympathies to the family of Mr. Njoroge Muhia and the people of Kipipiri on this painful loss,” he said.
Gachagua prayed that God would grant the family courage to bear the grief and asked the Almighty to rest the soul of the departed in eternal peace, saying, “May perpetual light shine upon him forever.”
Leaders pay tribute
Nyandarua Governor Kiarie Badilisha also sent a message of condolence to the Kipipiri MP, praising Mr. Njoroge’s long fight with illness as a true reflection of resilience, faith and determination.
“Mzee’s courageous 12-year fight with kidney failure is the true embodiment of resilience, faith and determination,” the governor said. “The disease hasn’t won; his strong legacy of unbowed determination is the truest symbol of victory.”
Governor Badilisha said he was speaking on his own behalf, his family, the county government and the people of Nyandarua, expressing solidarity with the MP and her family. He prayed for strength and fortitude for the family and asked God to grant them comfort during the time of mourning.
