The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has extended the registration deadline for candidates and members participating in Phase III of its grassroots elections, citing overwhelming interest and a surge in applications across the country.
In a notice dated January 4, 2026, the ruling party announced that the registration deadline has been pushed to Monday, January 5, 2026, at 4.00pm, giving aspiring candidates and party members additional time to complete the process.
Deadline extended amid high turnout
According to the notice, the extension was necessitated by the high volume of registrations recorded in recent days, as well as strong interest from UDA members nationwide seeking to take part in the party’s grassroots polls.
“The extension has been granted due to the high volume of registrations and the strong interest shown by members across the country, in order to allow all eligible participants adequate time to complete the registration process,” the statement reads.

The party said the decision was aimed at ensuring inclusivity and fairness by allowing all interested and eligible members sufficient time to finalise their applications without being locked out by technical or logistical challenges.
UDA grassroots elections are a key pillar of the party’s internal democratic processes and are expected to shape its leadership structures at the county and constituency levels ahead of future political contests.
County-based support teams rolled out
Following the extension, the UDA Party Secretariat announced the establishment of county-based support teams to assist members and candidates experiencing difficulties during registration.
The teams have been deployed across several counties, including Embu, Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Baringo, Bomet, Elgeyo Marakwet, Kericho, Laikipia, Nandi, Murang’a, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Nakuru, Samburu, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Kakamega and Vihiga.

Each county has designated support persons whose contacts have been shared to help resolve registration issues promptly. The party said the Secretariat will work closely with these county teams to ensure the process is smooth, efficient and accessible to all participants.
Members and candidates have been advised to reach out to the designated officials in their respective counties for guidance, clarification and technical support during the registration period.
Assurance of smooth and transparent process
UDA leadership assured members that the extension and deployment of support teams demonstrate the party’s commitment to transparent, inclusive and well-coordinated internal elections.
The party reiterated that grassroots elections are critical in strengthening its structures and giving members a voice in leadership selection at the local level.
“The Secretariat will work closely with these teams to ensure a smooth and efficient registration process,” the notice stated, urging members to take advantage of the extended deadline.

The notice was signed by Anthony Mwaura, Chairman of the UDA National Elections Board (NEB), who thanked members for their enthusiasm and participation in the ongoing process.
UDA offices are based at Hustler Plaza along Ngong Road in Nairobi, with the party encouraging members to seek official clarification through its established channels.
The Phase III grassroots elections are expected to play a significant role in shaping UDA’s political machinery as the party continues to consolidate its support base across the country.
