Quickmart, one of Kenya’s leading retail chains, has marked its 20th anniversary by officially opening its 69th and 70th stores in Nakuru County, increasing its presence in the county to four outlets.
The twin stores, located along Kenyatta Avenue and in Section 58, were officially unveiled on Friday, July 3, 2026, in a ceremony that celebrated the retailer’s growth and reaffirmed its roots in the region where the founding family launched the business two decades ago.
Speaking during the launch, Quickmart Chief Executive Officer Peter Kang’iri described the expansion as a way of giving back to the community that nurtured the company.
“Nakuru is home for us. This is where our founding family started in 2006. Opening two shops at once as we celebrate 20 years in operation is our way of marking this major milestone across the country,” said Kang’iri.
The two outlets also make Quickmart the first retailer in Nakuru County to operate stores 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Across the country, about half of the company’s branches already offer round-the-clock service, with Kang’iri encouraging other retailers to embrace the model.
“This is the only way to grow the economy. There are a lot of opportunities here in Nakuru, and the city is growing rapidly,” he said.
Created job opportunities
The expansion has also created significant employment opportunities in the county, with approximately 200 people hired to work in the Nakuru stores. Nationwide, Quickmart now employs about 8,000 people.
Kang’iri said the retailer plans to continue opening new outlets across the country, a move expected to create even more job opportunities while improving access to retail services.
Quickmart Chief Marketing Officer Betty Wamaitha said the opening of the two stores is both symbolic and strategic, reflecting the company’s commitment to expanding its national footprint while honouring its origins.

“Today we are proud to be celebrating the opening of these two stores in the place where we started. This brings our total to four stores in Nakuru as we continue expanding across Kenya,” she said.
She noted that Quickmart currently operates in 16 counties, with many of its branches offering 24-hour services to meet the changing needs of customers.
Work with Nakuru County government
To support the new round-the-clock operations, the company said it will work closely with the Nakuru County Government and security agencies to ensure the safety of customers and staff.
The opening of the two stores reflects Quickmart’s commitment to enhancing convenience, creating employment opportunities, stimulating economic growth, and supporting community development.

As Nakuru continues to grow into one of Kenya’s fastest-expanding cities, residents will now enjoy greater access to essential goods and services at any hour of the day or night.
The grand opening attracted customers, local leaders and other stakeholders, with the event featuring celebrations, promotional offers and guided tours of the retailer’s modern new facilities.
