A 29-year-old househelp who disappeared with Sh2.2 million from her employer’s home has been arrested in Malava, Kakamega County.
This follows a coordinated operation by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Nairobi Regional Headquarters and the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau.
Fleviar Muhonja Anaya executed the daring heist on March 16, 2025, when her employer left for errands, unaware of what was about to unfold. A few hours later, a security guard at the residence noticed Muhonja leaving with a large carrier bag. When questioned, she claimed she was delivering something on behalf of her employer.
Suspicious of the explanation, the employer attempted to call Muhonja, only to find her phone switched off. Rushing home, she was met with a shocking discovery—her househelp was gone, and so was the Sh2.2 million she had kept securely in her bedroom.
Detectives launch investigation
Detectives launched an investigation, using forensic leads to track down Muhonja. Their efforts bore fruit when they apprehended her in Malava, Kakamega County. Upon interrogation, she led officers to her grandmother’s home in Kapsoi, Vihiga County, where Sh700,000 was recovered.

The operation extended to her rural home in Kipkaren, Uasin Gishu County, where detectives found three chain links she had purchased using the stolen money. Further investigations led officers to Fuata Nyayo in South B, Nairobi, where another Sh800,000 was recovered from her rented house.
Muhonja is currently being held at Capitol Hill Police Station as detectives complete their investigations. She is expected to be arraigned in court soon to face charges related to theft.
