Monaco FC produced the most emphatic performance as the fourth edition of the Governor Wavinya Ndeti Cup gathered pace over the weekend, with teams from Kangundo and Mitaboni securing places in the Sub-County stage.
The second week of the grassroots football tournament featured action across Kangundo Central, Kangundo North, Kangundo East, Kangundo West and Mitaboni wards, with men’s and ladies’ teams battling for qualification.
In Kangundo East, Monaco FC sent a strong statement after brushing aside Moran FC 3-0 in the men’s final. The victory earned Monaco a place in the Sub-County stage and put them among the teams to watch as the competition progresses.
Young Arsenal Starlets ensured Kangundo East also had representation in the ladies’ category after edging Moran Starlets 1-0 in a closely contested final.
Kangundo Central produced a double qualification, with Kangundo FC defeating Muisuni FC 2-0 in the men’s final, while Kangundo Starlets recorded an identical victory over Muisuni Queens to claim the ladies’ ticket.
In Kangundo North, Misyani FC beat Kikambuani FC 2-0 in the men’s final, while Kawauni Starlets completed the ward’s double after overcoming Kikambuani Starlets 2-0 in the ladies’ final.
Mitaboni finals go to penalties
In Kangundo West, Mukunike FC edged Kawethei FC 1-0 in the men’s final to progress to the next stage. The ladies’ competition was decided through a round-robin format, with Kakuyuni Starlets emerging victorious.
Meanwhile, Mitaboni Ward provided some of the weekend’s most dramatic moments, with both finals requiring penalty shootouts.
Mitaboni Heroes FC held their nerve to defeat Kakilya FC 5-4 on penalties in the men’s final, while Muonyweni Starlets prevailed 4-3 against Miumbuni Queens in the ladies’ shootout.
The latest results have added another group of qualifiers to the Sub-County stage, setting the scene for tougher encounters as the Governor Wavinya Cup moves towards its decisive phase.

The tournament now shifts focus to the next cluster of five wards, where more teams will battle for qualification.
The successful teams from Kangundo and Mitaboni will face stronger opposition as they seek to keep their title ambitions alive.

For the qualifiers, the real test now begins at the Sub-County stage.
