Marurui Primary golfers shine at under-14 championships

Marurui Primary School is stepping up its efforts to nurture young golfing talent after its pupils featured prominently in the Under-14 Students’ Golf Championships held at Windsor Golf Club on September 12 and 13.

The two-day tournament brought together young golfers from Kenya and Uganda, providing an opportunity for learners to compete and gain valuable experience in the sport.

Marurui Primary School Deputy Headteacher Gabriel Muthungu Mwangi said the institution entered a team of promising young golfers who have developed considerable experience through regular participation in the sport.

“We took young and upcoming golfers who have experience playing golf,” said Mwangi, highlighting the school’s commitment to developing talent from an early age.

In the Under-14 girls’ category, Marurui’s Abigael Ayuma emerged the winner after scoring 179 points. Uganda’s Enhui Zhang finished second with 185 points, while Roach Donga was third with 191 points.

In the Under-14 boys’ category, James Munyoro took first place with 190 points. Kristopher Mwangi finished second with 210 points.

Young talent continues to emerge

In the Under-18 boys’ category, David Murii led the standings with 165 points, followed by Godwin Otieno with 180 points and Amos Kirui Kamau with 190 points.

The Under-12 boys’ category saw Braiden Njoroge score 176 points, while Derrick Junior finished with 205 points.

Approximately 30 learners participated in the championships, although only a few managed to complete the competition.

Mwangi said golf has grown significantly at Marurui Primary School, with an increasing number of learners showing interest in the sport.

He said the school is confident that its continued investment in golf will help nurture talented players capable of competing at the national level.

The school plans to continue providing opportunities for young golfers to gain competitive experience and improve their skills through tournaments.

The championships also offered the participating learners an opportunity to interact with other young golfers from the region and gain exposure to competitive golf.
