Mount Kenya University once again stamped its authority in university sports after emerging among the top-performing institutions during the highly competitive Kenya Universities Sports Federation Nairobi North Conference League.
The league, regarded as one of the toughest editions in recent years, saw MKU display remarkable consistency and resilience after seven months of rigorous preparation, discipline and determination.
The university’s efforts earned it several top institutional accolades, including Best Private University, Best Host University and Most Punctual University, while also finishing as the first runners-up overall.
Dominance across multiple sports
MKU demonstrated its depth in both individual and team disciplines by clinching 10 championship titles. The university emerged victorious in men’s and women’s 3×3 basketball, men’s and women’s badminton, men’s and women’s woodball, women’s taekwondo, women’s table tennis, men’s karate and men’s darts.

The institution also secured eight second-place finishes in men’s basketball, men’s and women’s athletics, women’s karate, men’s and women’s swimming, men’s table tennis and women’s tennis.

In addition, MKU claimed nine third-place finishes in women’s basketball, women’s football, men’s hockey, women’s netball, men’s volleyball, men’s chess, women’s darts and men’s and women’s scrabble.
The impressive medal haul underlined the university’s consistency and competitive strength across a wide range of sporting activities, placing it among the best-performing institutions in the conference league.
Leaders laud athletes’ dedication
Speaking after the competition, MKU Head of Sports, Creative and Performing Arts and Nairobi North Conference Secretary, Mr William Luta, praised the athletes for their dedication and fighting spirit throughout the season.
“This was a highly competitive league. Seven months of hard work, determination, sacrifice and relentless effort have finally paid off. Congratulations to Mount Kenya University and all the awardees,” he said.

MKU Dean of Students, Dr Emmanuel Owour, said the results reflected the university’s commitment to nurturing talent and promoting holistic student development through sports.

“These results affirm our commitment to supporting sports development as an integral part of student growth and excellence,” he noted.
Other universities also posted notable performances during the league, with Kenyatta University emerging as the overall winners, while Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology finished third overall and also took the Most Disciplined University award. Mama Ngina University College was named the Most Improved University, while St. Paul’s University received the Best Fair Play Award.
Beyond the trophies and podium finishes, the KUSF Nairobi North Conference League highlighted the growing competitiveness, teamwork and resilience that continue to shape the future of university sports in Kenya.
