Senator Gloria Orwoba expelled from UDA -

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has expelled nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba from the party, citing gross misconduct, insubordination, and repeated violations of the party’s constitution and code of conduct.

The decision was announced by UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar in a press statement on Monday evening, following a unanimous resolution by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).

According to Omar, the NEC adopted recommendations from the party’s Disciplinary Committee, which found Senator Orwoba guilty of conduct deemed damaging to the party’s public image and internal cohesion.

“After thorough deliberation and in accordance with Article 29 of the UDA Constitution, the NEC determined that Senator Orwoba’s actions were fundamentally incompatible with the party’s principles and vision,” the statement read.

Defiance and Legal Representation

A central issue leading to Orwoba’s expulsion was her refusal to personally appear before the Disciplinary Committee. The senator, instead, opted to respond through legal counsel, which the party argued undermined its internal dispute resolution process.

Despite being granted multiple opportunities to respond to summons and present her defense, the committee said Orwoba failed to engage in good faith with party structures.

“She consistently declined to honour invitations and relied solely on legal communication, signaling unwillingness to participate in the party’s accountability process,” added the statement.

Formal Notification to Senate and Registrar

Following her removal, UDA confirmed that it had formally notified the Registrar of Political Parties and the Speaker of the Senate. The party is now seeking to revoke her nomination and initiate her removal from the Senate under its banner.

Senator Orwoba is yet to issue a formal response to the expulsion.
