Following widespread disruptions at Nairobi National Park on Saturday, May 17, where hundreds of tourists were left stranded, Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano has announced the creation of a new entrance to ease congestion.
In a statement released via her official X account on Monday, May 19, CS Miano revealed that a fourth entry point will be established along the Southern Bypass. This move is aimed at alleviating pressure on the park’s main entrance and improving the flow of visitors, especially as tourism numbers continue to rise.
“Future Access Points: Exploring a new Southern Bypass entry to make your journey even more convenient,” she posted.
CS Miano emphasized that the initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance visitor experience while maintaining the park’s conservation goals.

“This is part of our commitment to creating a world-class experience while preserving the park’s incredible wildlife,” she said.
To further ease entry, two other gates—East Gate via Mombasa Road and Mbagathi Gate along Magadi Road, opposite Multimedia University—are now fully operational.
Additionally, Miano highlighted the introduction of express lanes for guests with prepaid e-Citizen tickets, ensuring faster and smoother access.
“The surge in visitor numbers is a testament to Kenya’s growing status as a top tourism and conference destination,” she noted, attributing the trend to successful international marketing and ongoing global events in Nairobi.
Her statement comes in response to a recent system outage on May 17 that caused delays at the park’s entrance, with prepaid ticket holders having to queue alongside those buying tickets at the gate. The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) later encouraged visitors to continue using prepaid options, assuring them of quicker entry through new express lanes.

“To enhance convenience and cut wait times, we have launched two express lanes for prepaid ticket holders at Nairobi National Park,” KWS stated in a follow-up announcement.
The new developments aim to improve visitor experiences and reaffirm Kenya’s dedication to strengthening its tourism infrastructure.
