Inooro TV's Michael Njenga declares Kabete MP bid

Inooro TV presenter Michael Njenga has officially announced his bid for the Kabete parliamentary seat, setting the stage for a contest against incumbent MP Githua Wamachukuru in the 2027 General Election.

Njenga made the announcement on Sunday, August 30, 2026, during a Sunday service at ACK Christ The King Ruku in Muguga Ward, Kabete Sub-County, Kiambu County.

He attended the service alongside Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi, whom he praised for what he described as his efforts to improve the lives of residents across the county.

Addressing congregants, Njenga, who has been conducting what he described as underground campaigns, asked Wamatangi for his guidance as he seeks to enter elective politics.

“Your Excellency, you have worked, and the results are evident,” Njenga said.

“I am requesting tano fresh (five years) to be the MP for Kabete,” he added.

Njenga further asked Wamatangi to support his political ambitions, describing himself as the governor’s younger brother.

“I am requesting for your guidance as your younger brother for the prosperity of our county [Kiambu] and Kabete Constituency,” he said.

Sources told Newsflash that Njenga is expected to contest the seat on a Jubilee Party ticket, although the party has yet to publicly confirm his candidature.

Calls for action on illicit brews

Beyond his political ambitions, Njenga used the occasion to raise concerns over the sale and consumption of illicit brews in Kabete, calling on Wamatangi to strengthen the fight against the menace.

“I have been receiving so many cases of grievous effects of illicit brews in our area…the brews have affected even young children,” Njenga said.

His entry into the race is expected to add a new dimension to the political contest in Kabete, where Wamachukuru is seeking to defend his seat.

Njenga is a familiar voice and face to audiences in Central Kenya, having built a career spanning radio and television journalism.

He currently reads news and co-hosts the Kimuri programme with veteran presenter Nderitu Waihura on Inooro TV.

Before moving to Inooro TV, Njenga co-hosted the Keera political programme with Waihura and the late Prof Ngugi Njoroge on Inooro FM.

Njenga previously worked at Citizen TV, where he served as a news anchor and reporter. Before taking up anchoring duties, he worked as a Productions Manager in both the video and audio sections.

He also worked at TBN Family Media as a radio presenter before rising to become Team Manager Radio, effectively heading the radio department, until his departure from Family FM.

Njenga was among journalists dispatched to Somalia in late 2011 to cover Kenyan troops during Operation Linda Nchi, launched to combat the Al-Shabaab militant group.
