President William Ruto on Saturday, 22 February, 2025, held a telephone conversation with United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio, reaffirming Kenya’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic ties with the U.S. and addressing regional security concerns.
In a statement on Saturday, Ruto disclosed that the discussions centered on deepening Kenya-U.S. relations and advancing shared interests, including economic cooperation and security collaboration.
One of the key issues discussed was the ongoing conflict in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Ruto and Rubio underscored the importance of the joint East African Community (EAC) and Southern African Development Community (SADC) process in resolving the crisis.
They emphasised the need for the appointment of facilitators, the enforcement of a ceasefire, and the broader political process necessary to achieve a lasting peace in the DRC.
