Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua now claims that President William Ruto is the one who instructs his allies on how to insult Kenyans.
Speaking on Sunday, 12 January 2025, during a church service at the Dandora African Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa (AIPCA), Nairobi, Gachagua said that when MPs close to the President make scathing statements demeaning Kenyans without any fear during his meetings, they are usually under his instructions.
Gachagua’s statement came following public backlash over remarks made by Daadab MP Farah Maalim targeting Ruto’s critics in his recent development tour in the Rift Valley region.
“Some bastards say that Ruto must go…does the presidency belong to their mothers?” posed the MP.
However, Gachagua said that in making such remarks, the MPs act at the behest of the President.
“I have stayed with the President for a long time. I know him well. When you look carefully, he usually laughs when those MPs are insulting others. He is their instructor. If you check when they are hurling insults at people (for example when they were attacking Natembeya), he was shaking his foot,” said Gachagua.
“Our son (Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wa) is Ruto’s errand boy. He is always under instructions on who to abuse. He is not the one who speaks, but his master. If you check carefully when he (Ichung’wa) is attacking others, Ruto is always behind him smiling. He is usually under his directions on who to abuse, the type of insult to direct at him/her…he is the master planner,” added Gachagua.
Gachagua, who has turned to be a fierce Ruto critic since his dramatic impeachment in October last year, said that he refused Ruto’s directives on how to abuse their critics but he refused.
“He tried to direct me to insult people, but I declined. I told him that I cannot do such dirty work. I told him to do it instead,” he said.
Gachagua’s remarks come as the 2027 election political campaigns seem to start early and on a high tempo.
During his development tour in the Rift Valley backyard, Ruto and his allies dismissed Gachagua as a “dangerous tribalist who was planting seeds of discord among Kenyans”.
Besides Ichung’wa and Maalim, some Ruto’s allies who have turned to be one of his fiercest defenders include Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi.
