President William Ruto on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, held a high-level meeting with Kisumu County leaders at State House, Nairobi. The delegation was led by Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o, as part of a broader strategy by the government to enhance development engagement with the Luo Nyanza region.
This meeting follows closely on the heels of a similar gathering between the President and Siaya County leaders, led by Governor James Orengo, where Ruto pledged Ksh3 billion in development support, with a major focus on blue economy infrastructure.
The latest discussions centered on reviewing the progress of ongoing national government projects in Kisumu, identifying priority areas for investment, and reinforcing collaboration between the two levels of government. Sources at the meeting indicated that infrastructure, water and sanitation, youth empowerment, and industrial development topped the agenda.

“The President is committed to a development-first approach, regardless of political affiliations,” a State House insider told the press. “Engagements with regional leaders are key to aligning county priorities with national development goals.”
During the earlier June 6 meeting with Siaya leaders, President Ruto had announced that the government would inject Sh1 billion into developing blue economy infrastructure—initiatives expected to be replicated across other counties in the Nyanza belt, including Kisumu.
Analysts see this sustained outreach as part of Ruto’s broader effort to build goodwill and secure political stability in opposition-leaning regions through tangible development outcomes.
The Kisumu delegation expressed optimism following the talks, with Governor Nyong’o stating that the dialogue was productive and aligned with the county’s development aspirations.
State House has hinted that similar engagements with other Nyanza counties are scheduled in the coming weeks as the government intensifies efforts to bridge regional development gaps.
The leaders discussed ways to accelerate infrastructure, healthcare, and economic projects tailored to local needs.
