Leshau Pondo MCA Gathungu Kamau, who is eyeing the Ndaragwa parliamentary seat on a Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) ticket in the 2027 General Election, has outlined his vision for the constituency through a manifesto centred on education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture and empowerment.
Gathungu, who is serving his second term as the Leshau Pondo ward representative, says his ambition is to provide a practical development agenda that responds to the needs of residents while creating opportunities for young people and women.
According to the MCA, top on his priority list is improving access to quality education, which he identifies as a key pillar for the transformation of Ndaragwa.
He says he would improve school infrastructure, support bursaries and equip young people with skills for the future.
1. Quality education for all
Quality education for all is the first pillar of the manifesto, with Gathungu presenting education as an investment that can equip learners with knowledge and skills while helping families overcome financial barriers to schooling.
2. Accessible healthcare
Gathungu also places accessible healthcare among his major priorities, promising to strengthen health facilities, equip dispensaries and ensure families can access quality medical services.
He says better-equipped health centres would reduce the burden residents face when seeking treatment and improve healthcare quality.
3. Roads and infrastructure
Roads and infrastructure form another key development component of his plan. Gathungu proposes upgrading roads, bridges and public infrastructure to improve connectivity and unlock economic opportunities.
He says improved infrastructure would ease movement of people and goods, open markets and connect communities.
4. Support for farmers
Agriculture, which remains an important source of livelihoods for many families, also features prominently in the manifesto.
Gathungu promises to promote modern farming, ensure fair markets and increase productivity to improve farmers’ livelihoods.
His plan seeks to help farmers increase output and secure better returns from their produce while strengthening household incomes.
5. Youth and women empowerment
The fifth pillar focuses on youth and women empowerment. Gathungu promises to create opportunities, support small and medium-sized enterprises and enable women and young people to contribute to the local economy.
He says supporting entrepreneurship and small businesses would create jobs and boost economic independence in Ndaragwa communities.
The MCA says his vision is anchored on collective action, with the campaign slogan “Together as One” seeking to bring residents together around a shared development agenda.
Banks on experience
His manifesto describes the intended approach as building “a better Ndaragwa”, while presenting experience, trust and commitment to service as the values underpinning his bid.
Gathungu’s political journey to the parliamentary race comes as parties and prospective candidates begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.

His decision to seek the Ndaragwa seat on a DCP ticket is expected to place him in a competitive political field as aspirants seek to convince voters of their ability to represent the constituency.
