Wavinya hails workforce reforms as 1,200 officers complete training

MOMBASA, KENYA – Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to building a professional and efficient public service through continuous staff training and capacity development.

Speaking during the closing ceremony of a staff training programme in Mombasa on Friday, August 14, 2026, Governor Ndeti said her administration prioritised workforce empowerment after finding low staff morale when she assumed office.

“When I assumed office, I found a demoralised workforce, which made it clear that transformation had to begin with investing in staff through structured capacity building and skills development,” she said.

Mechanism to develop human resource

The Governor noted that her administration had also established a taskforce to develop human resource manuals aimed at improving operations, strengthening institutional systems and enhancing accountability across county departments.

She announced that Cohort 3 officers drawn from various departments had successfully completed their training at the Kenya School of Government Mombasa Campus.

She added that the programme forms part of broader efforts to strengthen public service delivery in the county.

“To date, more than 1,200 officers have been trained across various capacities, with more cohorts planned in the coming weeks,” she said.

Investing in the workforce

Governor Ndeti emphasised that a motivated and skilled workforce remains central to effective service delivery.

“The engine of any civil service is its workforce, and by investing in our people, we are building a more efficient and professional public service,” she stated.

She said continuous training would equip county employees with the knowledge and skills required to respond effectively to the evolving needs of residents while promoting professionalism within the public service.

The training programme is part of the county government’s ongoing reforms aimed at enhancing productivity, accountability and service delivery to the people of Machakos.
