Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has issued a stern warning to Democracy for Citizen Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua ahead of his planned return from the United States on Thursday.
Speaking in Murang’a County during the 30th Jukwaa la Usalama forum, Murkomen said security agencies are on high alert, citing intelligence reports that some groups may attempt to cause chaos during Gachagua’s arrival.
“The last time he was around, there were so many goons in the name of protests. We were prepared then, and the National Police Service remains ready to protect citizens and their property,” Murkomen stated.
Arrest threat if unrest erupts
The Interior CS warned that Gachagua could face arrest if his supporters engage in lawlessness. DCP officials have already called for over one million people to converge at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to welcome their party leader.
According to Murkomen, the government believes such mobilisation is a cover for disruption of business in Nairobi. “We are aware of those elements threatening disruption, threatening football, and other activities. We will take legal action,” he said.
Murkomen further noted that the government will closely monitor Gachagua’s political activities across the country to prevent unrest. “The security agencies are prepared for a more chaotic environment as a result of his return,” he added.

Broader security operations
The Interior Ministry is also pursuing a 100-day crackdown on illicit alcohol. On Monday, officers seized counterfeit liquor and unregulated ethanol worth over Ksh3 million from a businessman in Murang’a County.
Murkomen said the operation will continue alongside heightened political security monitoring to ensure law and order.
The Jukwaa la Usalama forum moves to Nyandarua County on Wednesday, where the ministry is expected to outline further steps to safeguard communities amid rising political tensions.
