Former Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni and outspoken socio-political commentator Zack Kinuthia have landed fresh appointments in the Jubilee Party, following a major leadership shake-up approved by the party’s National Executive Council (NEC).
The reorganization, announced after a meeting chaired by its party leader, former President Uhuru Kenyatta, on Thursday, January 22, signals Jubilee’s renewed push to reposition itself ahead of the 2027 General Election, amid mounting economic pressures and growing political realignments across the country.
Kioni, who has been serving as Jubilee’s Secretary-General, has been elevated to Deputy Party Leader (Operations), while Kinuthia, formerly of the Party of National Unity (PNU), has been appointed Deputy Secretary-General.
The changes form part of a broader restructuring aimed at strengthening party discipline, revitalizing grassroots networks, and sharpening Jubilee’s profile as a national opposition force capable of mounting a serious electoral challenge.
Kioni takes on expanded operational role
According to a statement released after the NEC meeting, Kioni’s new role places him at the center of Jubilee’s operational machinery. He has been tasked with strengthening party structures, ensuring compliance with internal processes, and coordinating activities from the grassroots to the national level.
Kioni will also lead Jubilee’s engagement with key political and societal stakeholders as the party rebuilds alliances and expands its national reach. His elevation reflects confidence in his organizational experience and institutional memory, having remained a key figure in Jubilee after its loss of power in 2022.

The appointment of Zack Kinuthia introduces a vocal socio-political voice into Jubilee’s senior leadership. Known for sharp commentary on governance and economic policy, Kinuthia’s move to Jubilee underscores efforts to attract new faces and broaden the party’s appeal, particularly among politically engaged youth and urban voters increasingly critical of the political status quo.
As Deputy Secretary-General, Kinuthia will deputize Secretary-General Ole Kenta and is expected to play a key role in party coordination and messaging, reinforcing Jubilee’s critique of what it describes as policy confusion and governance fatigue under the current administration.
Jubilee eyes 2027
The NEC also approved several other appointments. Ole Kenta was confirmed as Secretary-General, Vincent Mogaka Kimoki appointed Chairperson, and Yassin Noor Haji named National Organizing Secretary. Dan Mwangi was appointed Executive Director, Kiembi Gitura Director of Elections, Peter Kados Chair of the MCA Caucus, and Saitoti Torome head of the Jubilee Foundation’s public policy unit.
The party said the changes reflect a deliberate shift toward rebuilding a disciplined, nationally rooted organization capable of articulating clear, practical policy solutions to Kenya’s economic and governance challenges as the country heads toward the 2027 polls.
