Nyeri governor Mutahi Kahiga has blasted Deputy President Kindiki Kithure over what he terms as “ignorance” during his recent tour at the Mt Kenya county.
On Wednesday, Kahiga, a close ally of former impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, lamented that Prof Kindiki visited his county without informing him nor his office, reading an ill motive.
Prof Kindiki was at Kieni constituency last Friday, 31st January 2025, where he commissioned several projects while following the implementation of others.
At Aguthi village, Kindiki commissioned a rural electrification project connecting 101 residents to electricity.
The DP was flanked by Energy Principal Secretary Alex Wachira and several MPs including Kieni’s Njoroge Wainaina, Eric Wamumbi (Mathira) among others.
However, the presence of Kindiki in Nyeri has not gone well with Kahiga, who says that he was not aware of the DP’s presence in his county.
“The Deputy President came to Nyeri…you know there are some people who usually starts unnecessary wars for nothing. The office of the governor is open. It is a public office. Courtesy demands that when a visitor of the status of a Deputy President is visiting our area, we be informed. We ought to be sent his program so that we know where we ought to participate,” he said.
“Now, we are just here…hearing that he is in Kieni or Aguthi and we don’t know whether to join him or not. Imagine a whole governor being left stranded, unaware of the DP’s presence in his jurisdiction. Is that right? Public officials should respect each other,” lamented Kahiga.
Newsflash has independently learnt that Prof Kindiki’s handlers by-passed Kahiga due to his closeness with Gachagua.
MPs Wainaina and Wamumbi are close allies of President William Ruto. Other Ruto allies in the county include MPs Gichuki Mugambi (Othaya) and Rahab Mukami (Nyeri Women Representative).
Gachagua’s allies are MPs John Kagucia (Mukurwe-ini) and Anthony Wandeto (Tetu).
