Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has outlined the conditions under which he would consider working again with President William Ruto, making it clear that any possibility of reconciliation remains highly unlikely.
Speaking during an interview on Inooro TV on Sunday, February 1, Gachagua said he could only cooperate with President Ruto if the young Kenyans who died during 2024/2025 anti-government protests were brought back to life.
“I can only work with Ruto if all the Gen Zs killed are resurrected,” said Gachagua.
Blame over deaths and violence
The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader accused the President of bearing responsibility for the deaths and violence that have rocked some of his meetings.
He claimed the attacks he has faced during some of his public engagements were not spontaneous, but orchestrated.
Gachagua also addressed the recent chaos at a church gathering in Othaya, which he described as a State-sponsored attack. He criticized security agencies for what he termed as a failure to protect citizens and leaders from violence.

Turning his attention to the Inspector-General of Police, Douglas Kanja, Gachagua accused him of inaction and said he should step down if he cannot guarantee the safety of Kenyans.
“Kanja should instead resign if he can watch his people suffer such attacks while being at the helm of police leadership in the country,” he said.
Opposition tours
At the same time, Gachagua revealed that he plans to tour Nakuru County later this month alongside other opposition leaders under the United Opposition brigade.
The group includes Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua, Fred Matiang’i and George Natembeya, among others.

He dismissed warnings issued by Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika, who has cautioned him against inciting residents along tribal lines.
“I don’t know why Susan Kihika is threatening me, yet I am the one who helped her to be elected governor,” said Gachagua.
Earlier on Sunday, the opposition team held tours in Murang’a and Othaya in Nyeri County.
