Catholic Bishop Anthony Muheria on Friday sharply criticized the government, accusing it of engaging in public relations stunts rather than addressing pressing issues affecting Kenyans.
Speaking during a church event, Bishop Muheria urged the administration to focus on real solutions, rather than mere optics, to ease the economic burden on citizens.
“Our people are struggling with high costs of living, joblessness, and economic hardship. Instead of engaging in staged performances, the government must roll up its sleeves and work for the people,” Bishop Muheria asserted.
President Ruto has continuously stated that the Kenya Kwanza administration is ready to work for the people and fulfil the campaign manifestos.

He recently urged Kenyans to stop hate on the government and promote peace and unity.

His remarks sparked reactions from both government and opposition leaders. Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua acknowledged the bishop’s concerns, stating that the government was committed to improving the economy and addressing citizens’ needs.
“We are aware of the economic challenges Kenyans are facing, and we are implementing policies to stabilize the situation. The guidance and prayers of our religious leaders remain invaluable as we continue working towards solutions,” Gachagua responded.
Opposition leaders also seized the moment to criticize the government. Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka condemned what he termed as empty rhetoric from the administration, demanding greater accountability and tangible action.
“The government must stop hoodwinking Kenyans with PR stunts while the people continue to suffer. We need policies that bring down the cost of living and create employment opportunities,” Kalonzo said.
ODM leader Raila Odinga also weighed in, challenging the government to fulfill its promises instead of engaging in media spectacles.
“Kenyans need real change, not distractions. Leadership is about service, and this administration must rise to the occasion to ensure economic stability and prosperity for all,” Raila remarked.
