Residents of Munyeki village in Ol Kalou are set to enjoy improved access to healthcare following the opening of a Sh25 million dispensary by Nyandarua Governor Kiarie Badilisha.
The newly commissioned Munyeki Dispensary is expected to significantly ease access to medical services for local residents who previously had to travel long distances to seek treatment.
The total project cost covered the purchase of land, construction of the health facility, and the development of a playground aimed at engaging youth in sports as part of broader efforts to curb drug abuse and alcoholism.
Speaking during the official opening, Badilisha said the facility marked a major milestone in his administration’s commitment to expanding healthcare services across the county.
“I have officially opened Munyeki Dispensary, the 92nd health facility to open in Nyandarua, up from 78 facilities three years ago,” he said on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.
Boost to healthcare access
The governor noted that the dispensary will serve as one of the satellite facilities supporting the JM Kariuki Memorial Hospital, helping to decongest the county’s main referral hospital. He added that the new facility has drastically reduced the distance residents must travel to access healthcare services.
“The people of Munyeki used to travel up to 15 kilometres to seek medical attention. With this dispensary, that distance has now been reduced to less than five kilometres,” Badilisha said.

He regretted that for years, residents had been forced to seek medication and treatment from far-off facilities such as JM Kariuki Memorial Hospital and Engineer Hospital, often at great inconvenience and cost. According to the governor, the establishment of Munyeki Dispensary is part of a deliberate strategy to bring healthcare services closer to communities.
Badilisha reiterated that expanding health infrastructure remains a key pillar of his administration, in line with his campaign manifesto.
“This is part of my commitment to ensure that every one of Nyandarua County’s 25 wards has a functional health facility,” he said.
Manifesto pledge and leaders’ praise
The governor further revealed that several other dispensaries across the county are at various stages of completion, while the upgrade of four sub-county health facilities to Level Four status is ongoing.
“Additionally, the annual addition of healthcare staff remains a top priority of my government to ensure that our facilities are adequately staffed and operational,” he added.
The ceremony was attended by several county leaders, including Deputy Governor Mathara Mwangi, Deputy Speaker Chege Gathirimu, Majority Leader Mwangi Nyaga, area MCA Daniel Gitau, and Leshau Pondo MCA Gathungu Kamau, among other Members of the County Assembly.

Residents who spoke to Newsflash expressed gratitude for the new dispensary, describing it as a trailblazer in Nyandarua’s healthcare delivery. Many said the facility would save them time and transport costs while ensuring timely access to essential medical services.
They called on the county government to ensure the dispensary is well-equipped and adequately staffed to meet the growing healthcare needs of the area.
