Karobia vows to defend Mt Kenya unity and develop Thika

East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Maina Karobia has said the Mt Kenya community will remain united despite attempts to divide it.

Speaking in Thika town, Kiambu County, on Sunday, September 13, Mr Karobia said those seeking to split the community would not succeed, as its members would continue working together.

Mr Karobia, who is seeking to become the next Thika Town MP in the 2027 General Election, also pledged to promote the interests of traders and ensure they are treated equally if elected.

“We do not want to see traders discriminated against in Thika Market. Everyone is equal, and there is no such thing as a small or big business,” he said.

He said he would prioritise addressing perennial flooding in Kamenu Ward, where residents have experienced waterlogging whenever it rains.

Pledges better services for Thika residents

The legislator also promised to improve healthcare services by pursuing the construction of another Level 4 hospital in Kamenu Ward.

He further pledged to establish constituency offices in every ward to improve access to services for residents at the grassroots.

Mr Karobia said he would focus on improving the welfare of young people through sports and job creation, adding that the youth should not be exploited to engage in violence.

“I will work to ensure that we discuss how young people can secure employment,” he said.

Ndia MP George Kariuki, who accompanied Mr Karobia, said Thika had made significant progress because of its vibrant commercial activities and deserved to be elevated to city status.

He said granting Thika city status would create more employment opportunities for young people and attract further infrastructure development.

Mr Kariuki urged leaders from the Mt Kenya region to work together, promote unity and avoid actions that could divide the community.
