About 2,200 tertiary college students from Thika Constituency received NG-CDF development bursaries amounting to Sh17,000,730.
The event was held at Chania High School in Thika on Friday, June 12.
Thika MP Alice Ng’ang’a, popularly known as “Mama Simba,” led the ceremony and presented the cheques, with about 3,000 parents and residents attending.
According to the MP, several secondary schools have benefited from NG-CDF funding, including Thika High School, Chania Boys High School, Chania Girls High School, Garrison Secondary School and Jamhuri Secondary School.
Call for student counselling
Commenting on the recent fire incident at Utumishi Boys Academy Gilgil in Nakuru County, she said parents have a major responsibility to engage with their children and help them understand how to deal with challenges.
“It is time for the government to establish special counselling centres for students in schools,” said the MP.

Ms Ng’ang’a also said her ambition to run for the Kiambu governorship remains intact and that she has continued campaigning in different areas.
“I have already visited places such as Lari, Kikuyu, Githunguri and Juja to ask residents to elect me as the next Governor of Kiambu,” she said.

She added that the time has come for Kiambu to have a female governor, citing Embu County, Kirinyaga County, Nakuru County and Homa Bay County as counties currently led by women.
“I have come to you humbly to ask you to embrace change and give ‘Mama Simba’ an opportunity to serve you,” she said.
Leaders urge parental guidance
Businessman Paul Kogi, a prominent investor in Kiambu County and across the country, urged Thika residents to elect him as senator in the next General Election.
He advised parents to remain close to their children and provide them with regular guidance.
He said it had become evident that many students channel their anger into acts of destruction whenever they have disagreements with teachers.
“Such behaviour must be stopped immediately,” said Mr Kogi.

He added that this is the right time for parents to draw closer to their children and guide them appropriately.
During the event, Mr Kogi officially introduced himself to residents and said he would continue accompanying MP Alice Ng’ang’a as they seek support from voters.
Archbishop David Gakuyo of Calvary Chosen Centre said he will contest the Thika parliamentary seat in the next General Election.
“This time, as voters, you should remain vigilant and avoid being misled into electing leaders who lack vision,” said the cleric.
Thika West Deputy County Commissioner James Wanyoike advised parents to guide their children properly.
He also urged students to focus on their studies and not allow themselves to be misled by anyone.
