Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika made a joyous return to Kenya on Friday, April 25, 2025, after spending several weeks in the United States, where she gave birth to twin boys.
The arrival of Governor Kihika and her husband, businessman Sam Mburu, at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport was met with celebration from close friends, family, and fellow politicians.
Newsflash has exclusively learned that the newborns have been named Jayden and Jonathan, marking a moment of double joy for the governor and her family. Clad in a flowing blue outfit and visibly glowing, Kihika smiled warmly as she greeted her guests and supporters who had gathered to welcome her back.
“Truly blessed and overwhelmed with gratitude. Was deeply humbled and honored to receive a warm visit from my dear friends who came to welcome me home and celebrate the arrival of my twin babies,” Kihika said in a heartfelt message shared on her social media platforms shortly after her return.
“Your love, prayers, and presence mean the world to me and my family. Thank you for standing with me in this special season of double blessings. Truly, there is nothing like the bond of friendship and support in leadership. God bless you all! Love you all!”
Warm welcome amid political tensions
The governor’s return was marked not only by personal celebration but also by political undertones. Among those who turned up to welcome her were a number of prominent women leaders, including Nyeri Women Representative Rahab Mukami, Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire, Nominated Senator Veronicah Maina, and Dagoretti North MP Beatrice Elachi, signaling a strong show of solidarity from female political allies.

Despite the joyous occasion, Kihika’s prolonged absence from her official duties in Nakuru County has stirred political unrest. Several local activists and civil society groups have in recent weeks demanded accountability, accusing her of being an “absent” governor. Some have even gone as far as calling for her resignation, citing neglect of duty during a period when the county has faced service delivery challenges.

However, her allies have dismissed these criticisms as insensitive and politically motivated. “Leadership is not confined to geography,” one of her supporters told Newsflash. “Governor Kihika has continued to offer direction and oversight remotely, and now that she’s back, she will pick up right where she left off.”
Kihika’s supporters argue that the governor deserves space to enjoy her growing family, especially given the significance and demands of childbirth. They also point to the historical challenges faced by female leaders in balancing public expectations with personal responsibilities.
As she settles back into her official role, all eyes will be on how Governor Kihika responds to the rising pressure from some quarters, while also embracing her new chapter as a mother of twins. For now, her return marks a moment of happiness and gratitude—a double blessing that has brought both joy and fresh scrutiny.
