Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has launched a scathing attack on President William Ruto’s administration, accusing it of failing to deliver services to Kenyans.
Speaking in Nyasore, Kisii County, during the burial of Mzee Naftal Zachary Chweya on Friday, Matiang’i declared his readiness to lead the country in 2027, saying Kenyans deserve a government that prioritizes service delivery over debt and false promises.
“This government has driven the country into debt,” Matiang’i said. “The only work happening in Kenya is indebting the nation, nothing else.”
Doubts Over Social Health Authority
The former CS questioned the effectiveness of the Social Health Authority (SHA), a flagship program of the Ruto administration.
“Does this thing called SHA really work?” Matiang’i asked. “They continue lying to Kenyans, but eventually people see the truth—that it does not work.”
He also criticized the government for failing to prioritize ordinary citizens’ needs, accusing it of neglecting essential services in favor of politics.

Concerns Over Education Funding
Matiang’i, who previously served as Education CS, raised alarm over delays in school capitation funds.
“Today, I spoke to four principals who confirmed they have not received capitation. Schools have opened, but how will teachers teach without resources?” he asked.
The former CS linked the crisis to corruption, citing reports of billions lost while schools struggle to fund basic operations. “They steal billions, then distribute Ksh.64 to our mothers. Isn’t that foolishness?” he told supporters.
Matiang’i promised that under his leadership, education funds would be protected, emphasizing his track record of efficiency during his time in office.
Vows to Offer Honest Leadership
Highlighting his tenure in the Education and Interior ministries, Matiang’i said he would bring accountability and honesty back to government.
“When we were in office, funds were sent to schools. The culture of theft we see now did not exist. I am ready to begin work even tomorrow to help our country,” he said.
He urged Kenyans to prepare for political change in 2027, insisting that Kisii people and other Kenyans are ready for new leadership.
“As God created us, I am ready to remove my shirt and begin. You will see how government can be managed properly,” Matiang’i told the crowd.

Calls for Political Integrity
Matiang’i warned Kenyans against accepting handouts from politicians, accusing leaders of bribing voters with stolen funds.
“When you meet them, don’t take Ksh.200. They should give each person at least Ksh.10,000 if they want your attention. If not, don’t go anywhere,” he said.
The former CS stressed that Kenya needs leaders committed to service, not empty promises. “We must decide whether we want to work or just milk the cow,” he said.
Rallying Support in Kisii
Matiang’i was accompanied by Kisii Senator Okong’o Omogeni, MPs Patrick Osero and Clive Gisairo, and UPA National Chairperson Nyambega Gisesa. The leaders echoed his sentiments, urging Kisii residents and Kenyans at large to support Matiang’i’s bid for the presidency in 2027.
The burial event turned into a political rally, with Matiang’i framing himself as the leader who could restore integrity and service delivery in Kenya.
