Deputy President Kithure Kindiki says he is fully focused on executing his duties as he supports President William Ruto to win a second term in the 2027 General Election.
His remarks come in the wake of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Oburu Oginga’s demand that the party aims to secure the Deputy President’s slot in negotiations with President Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Speaking on Sunday in Kariene town, Central Imenti Constituency, Meru County, after attending the induction and installation service of Bishop Doreen Mwathe as Bishop of Abothuguchi Synod, Methodist Church of Kenya in Kirigara, Kindiki emphasized that his focus remains on governance and service delivery.
“I am the Deputy President. This seat is going nowhere and when we are done with the second term we will progress ahead in search for the higher office,” the DP stated.
Focus on development, not idle talk
Prof Kindiki, a seasoned politician, brushed aside attempts to draw him into political debates, asserting that action speaks louder than words.
“As a veteran politician, we know when to talk, when to do politics and when to work for the people. It will not be engaging in idle talk every day because we have a lot to do for the people,” he noted.

He stressed that his priority is the completion of government projects to improve the lives of citizens, saying, “It is about what you have done for the people because at the end it will be what you delivered to them.”

Several development projects are currently underway in Meru County, with timelines aligned to the next general elections. These include road construction initiatives, the ongoing upgrade of Meru Referral Hospital to Level 6, and the upcoming redesign of Nithi Bridge.
Additionally, the Gakoromone Modern Market in Meru town, which is under construction, is set to become the largest in the country once complete. Mariene University in Central Imenti is also earmarked for completion, signaling a strong push for infrastructural and educational development in the region.
Economic gains and ongoing leadership
Kindiki also highlighted government interventions that have boosted the economy and eased cost-of-living pressures. He pointed to reduced fuel prices as a tangible result of these policies.
“The petrol prices have come down by 4 shillings. The prices have been reducing since 2022 because of the interventions by the President,” he indicated, underscoring the positive impact of economic policies initiated under President Ruto’s administration.

During the visit, Kindiki was accompanied by Meru Governor Mutuma M’ithingia, Deputy Governor Linda Kiome, Central Imenti MP Kirima Ngucine, Tigania East MP Mpuru Aburi, County Assembly Speaker Ayub Bundi, MCAs, and other leaders, highlighting the collaborative effort between national and county leadership in advancing development projects.
With the political noise around coalition negotiations, the Deputy President has made it clear that he will continue to prioritize service delivery, leaving speculation on succession plans and party negotiations aside.
