Nyandarua Woman Representative Faith Gitau faced a hostile reception in Ol Kalou on Thursday, April 3, 2025, as angry residents jeered at her, forcing her to cut short her speech in front of President William Ruto.
Gitau, a staunch supporter of President Ruto, was addressing a Sh240 million loan taken by the Ol Kalou Dairy when the crowd turned against her, chanting anti-Gitau slogans and heckling loudly.
“This Ol Kalou Dairy has a problem, Mr. President. They took a loan of Sh240 million, but they have been unable to pay. Mr. President, just as you have been helping other organizations to waive their debts, help us waive this debt because you have the capability to do so,” she stated.
As she attempted to continue her speech, she appeared to take a dig at her political opponents, which further provoked the crowd.
“And I want to say this, our help comes from this man [Ruto], that’s why we are here. Even if you give excuses. There are some people who came here to mislead us, and we can’t accept to be deceived even if you heckle me,” she said before being forced to finish her speech abruptly due to the jeers.
Nyandarua MCAs boycott Ruto’s meeting
Meanwhile, in what appeared to be an open act of defiance, Nyandarua Members of County Assembly (MCAs) snubbed Ruto’s meeting and instead attended a separate meeting with Nyandarua Senator John Methu.
“We have abandoned Ruto’s meeting. We are currently in a meeting with Senator Methu,” an MCA who attended the session told Newsflash.

The absence of the MCAs from Ruto’s event fueled speculation of a growing political divide in the region, as internal tensions continue to surface within the ruling coalition.
Political tensions in Mt Kenya
The heckling of Gitau and the MCAs’ boycott of Ruto’s event come amid heightened political tensions in Mt Kenya, with some leaders increasingly critical of the government’s performance.
Recent public meetings in the region have seen mixed receptions for leaders allied to Ruto, raising questions about shifting political dynamics in Nyandarua and the broader Mt Kenya region.
Gitau has been a vocal supporter of Ruto, but Thursday’s incident signals potential discontent among the residents.
