Leshau Pondo MCA Kamau Gathungu has called on Ndaragwa MP George Gachagua to ensure that the pledges made by President William Ruto to the constituents during his recent visit to Nyandarua County are fully implemented.
Speaking over the weekend at two separate events in the constituency — the burial of veteran teacher Mwalimu Peter Muya Murage in Mairo Inya village and the retirement celebration of PCEA elder Priscilla Wanjiku Kago at Kahembe Githima Parish — Gathungu directly addressed Gachagua, who was present alongside former MP Jeremiah Kioni.
During his visit to the County last week, President Ruto announced the rollout of 19 Last Mile Connectivity Projects aimed at connecting 1,010 households to electricity in the constituency. However, Gathungu expressed skepticism about the implementation of these promises and urged Gachagua to be vigilant in holding the national government accountable.
“It’s bad when you are a leader known to be a liar,” Gathungu said, sparing no words for President Ruto. “To Honourable Gachagua — and thank you for coming, my brother — please ensure that we get the electricity we were promised. He [Ruto] said that bulldozers are already in the area, but I know they left long ago.”
Once a Ruto supporter
Gathungu, once a strong supporter of the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), expressed disillusionment with the government’s performance, suggesting that campaign promises had been abandoned.
“When we were campaigning for UDA, we were untouchable. But now, I have seen the light,” he said to laughter from the gathered crowd.
He accused the President of making empty promises during his tour of Ndaragwa, arguing that the government had enough time since its election in 2022 to fulfill its commitments.

“The President we elected is a liar, and he lies. He toured our area and gave us so many promises. We could have fulfilled them in 2022, 2023, and 2024. If money is only now available in 2025, we hope the work will finally be done — and that he had not come to lie to us the way he is used to.”
Gathungu also criticized the practice of making fresh pledges before old ones are completed.
“Our people, let’s learn to be truthful. Truth has authority. We shall have no problem when we are served well. Even when the President came, we told him — please don’t give us more promises. First fulfil what you promised us. And we shall be contented.”
In his address, the MCA further urged Gachagua to lobby for more financial control at the ward level. He said that MCAs should be given access to bursary funds and road construction allocations so they can better serve their constituents directly.
Nyandarua MCAs snub Ruto
He also revealed that the majority of MCAs from Nyandarua County had snubbed President Ruto’s meeting during his recent visit, citing disappointment and frustration over unfulfilled promises.
“Our Nyandarua MCAs didn’t show up when the President came. Why? Because we’ve discovered he is a liar,” Gathungu said bluntly.

The remarks place Gachagua, a close ally of President Ruto, in a delicate position as pressure mounts from both constituents and county leaders for the delivery of long-awaited development projects.
The political fallout from unmet expectations in Ndaragwa could signal deeper frustrations simmering beneath the surface within the Kenya Kwanza alliance in central Kenya — frustrations that may prove politically costly if not urgently addressed.
