As the race for the Ndaragwa parliamentary seat in 2027 begins to take shape, one name continues to dominate conversations across the constituency: Kamau Gathungu, the Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Leshau Pondo ward.
Gathungu’s rising popularity is anchored in his unmatched development record, particularly in some of the most remote and previously neglected areas of Ndaragwa.
His hands-on leadership style and ability to deliver tangible results have positioned him as the clear frontrunner to replace the current Member of Parliament.

In areas such as Mahianyu, Kiandege, Leshau, Kwa Gordon, Nyakinyua, and Gwa Kung’u, Gathungu has become a household name, widely praised for his relentless focus on improving infrastructure, water access, education, and healthcare services.
These areas, which have long been overlooked by successive leaders, are now enjoying the fruits of his leadership, and residents believe elevating him to the national stage is the natural next step.
“Kamau Gathungu has proven that leadership is about action, not empty promises,” says John Mwangi, a Nyakinyua resident. “For years we were forgotten, but now we have roads, clean water, and better schools. Why wouldn’t we want him to represent us in Parliament?”
A legacy of development
Since his election as MCA, Gathungu has prioritized projects that directly impact ordinary citizens. In Mahianyu and Kiandege, his office has overseen the grading and murraming of key access roads, opening up the areas for trade and easier transportation.
In Leshau and Kwa Gordon, new boreholes and water piping systems have brought clean, reliable water to hundreds of households.
For the farming community in Gwa Kung’u, Gathungu has facilitated the establishment of agricultural support programs that provide seedlings, fertilizers, and market linkages.

“Our people don’t want politics for the sake of politics,” notes Mary Wairimu, a trader from Kiandege. “We want someone who can build, who can deliver, and Kamau has done exactly that.”
Why 2027 looks promising
Several factors give Gathungu a strong advantage heading into the 2027 general election. First is his deep grassroots network. As an MCA, he has spent years closely engaging with the electorate at the village level, attending local events, and responding directly to constituents’ needs. His visibility and accessibility have endeared him to the electorate across Ndaragwa.
Secondly, Gathungu has maintained a reputation for transparency and accountability in the use of public funds, something residents say has been missing in previous leadership. Projects in remote parts of the ward have been completed on time and with high-quality workmanship, further boosting his credibility.

“Many politicians only remember us during campaigns, but Kamau has been working since day one,” says Peter Gichaga from Kwa Gordon. “When we hear he wants to be our MP, we already know he’s the right person.”
Political stragegy
Gathungu’s potential bid for the Ndaragwa parliamentary seat is also gaining momentum due to his strategic alliances within the larger Nyandarua County political landscape.
While others engage in divisive politics, Gathungu has positioned himself as a unifying figure who can work with all leaders, regardless of party or faction.
Political analyst Mwangi Gichure explains, “Kamau Gathungu’s approach of putting development first while staying out of unnecessary political fights makes him a strong candidate. Ndaragwa voters are tired of empty rhetoric. They want someone who can deliver real change, and Gathungu’s track record speaks for itself.”
Looking ahead
As 2027 approaches, momentum behind Kamau Gathungu’s candidacy is only expected to grow. His performance as Leshau Pondo MCA has already demonstrated his capacity to transform lives, even in areas many politicians consider too remote or insignificant to prioritize.
