Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has revealed that he was the one who advised musician Samidoh (Samuel Muchoki) to resign from the National Police Service (NPS) due to security concerns.
Speaking in an interview with Kameme FM and Kameme TV on Monday, 16 June 2025, Gachagua said the popular Kikuyu Benga musician, who was among Mt Kenya artists who recently visited Deputy President Kithure Kindiki’s residence, had been forced to attend the meeting.
“I spoke to Samidoh, and he told me that he was forced to attend the meeting. He didn’t want,” revealed Gachagua.
He added that he persuaded Samidoh to leave his police job after he was transferred to the Anti-Stock Theft Unit in Gilgil, saying the deployment posed serious danger to the singer’s life.
“Police officers in that department are the ones who are sent to face with cattle rustlers in dangerous zones like Baragoi. I asked Samidoh: Why would you risk your life by being deployed to Baragoi because of Sh40,000 while you are making Sh1.6 million shillings a month from music?” said Gachagua.
“Samidoh is a rich young man. He makes an average of Sh400,000 on a weekend from music performances. I asked him; should he be killed in the line of duty, whom will we be left with?”
Gachagua also disclosed that he advised the singer to travel abroad.
Musicians under fire over Kindiki visit
Currently, the musician is in the US, where he is scheduled for a series of performances.
Gachagua’s remarks follow widespread criticism targeting several musicians who visited Kindiki’s residence—a move that was seen as a betrayal of the Mt Kenya political cause.
Last week, musician and philanthropist Karangu wa Muraya was forced to seek police protection after an angry crowd threatened to attack him in Murang’a town.

Gachagua said he has forgiven all the musicians who attended the meeting.
“Dear musicians, you are my children. I have forgiven you. However, I am advising you not to be greedy; don’t betray your people by joining hands with their enemies.”
He further claimed that musicians who attended the meeting at the Deputy President’s residence in Karen were given Sh50,000 each, while those who honored President William Ruto’s State House invitation received Sh80,000.
“I urge our people, forgive our musicians. They are our children. To err is to repeat a mistake. Since I have also asked for forgiveness for the mistakes I have previously done, please forgive them too. If they won’t go back to those who are planning evil on our community, please receive them and listen to their songs so that they can get a livelihood,” said Gachagua.
He revealed that he will soon join the musician in the US for Ngemi Festival, a Kikuyu music extravaganza.
