Bamburi Cement PLC and the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) have reaffirmed their commitment to promoting quality construction materials and protecting consumers through closer collaboration.
This follows a courtesy visit by Bamburi Cement Chief Executive Officer Geoffrey Ndugwa to the KEBS headquarters in Nairobi, where he held an introductory meeting with KEBS Managing Director Esther Ngari.
The meeting served as an opportunity for the two leaders to strengthen the long-standing relationship between their organizations and discuss ways of enhancing quality assurance within Kenya’s construction sector.
A key issue during the discussions was the need to safeguard consumers by ensuring that only high-quality building materials reach the market. The two institutions also emphasized the importance of tackling the growing challenge posed by substandard products, which continue to threaten public safety and infrastructure development.
Commitment to quality standards
Speaking during the visit, Mr Ndugwa said Bamburi Cement remains committed to meeting and exceeding national quality standards.
“Maintaining strict conformity to national quality standards is not just a regulatory obligation for Bamburi Cement; it is the cornerstone of our corporate DNA,” he said.

He praised KEBS for its continued efforts in market surveillance, auditing and inspections, noting that such initiatives help protect consumers from structural risks while enhancing the durability of infrastructure projects across the country.
“We deeply appreciate KEBS’ unrelenting commitment to market surveillance, robust auditing and manufacturing facility assessments. Positive collaborations like this ensure that the Kenyan public is protected against structural hazards while securing the longevity of our country’s critical infrastructure projects,” said Mr Ndugwa.
He added that collaboration between manufacturers and regulators is essential in maintaining public confidence in construction materials and ensuring sustainable growth within the sector.
Strengthening industry collaboration
On her part, Ms Ngari welcomed the Bamburi Cement CEO and reaffirmed KEBS’ commitment to supporting industry players through partnerships and regular engagement.
“Continuous, direct engagement with our primary industry players is key to helping local enterprises meet regulatory criteria seamlessly while scaling up industrial competitiveness,” she said.
Ms Ngari noted that KEBS will continue providing the technical expertise, quality infrastructure and standardized frameworks needed to drive industrial growth, environmental sustainability and consumer protection.
The two organizations also expressed their intention to maintain open communication and work together on consumer awareness initiatives. They further pledged to participate in technical committees focusing on future-proof eco-materials and sustainable building solutions.
The renewed partnership is expected to contribute to higher quality standards, enhanced consumer confidence and a safer, more sustainable built environment in Kenya.
