United States International University-Africa (USIU-Africa) has emerged champions of the Call of Duty: Mobile Siku Zombo University Esports Tournament after defeating rival university teams in a competition that brought together gamers from across Kenya.
The winning team walked away with KSh100,000 in prize money after securing first place in the inter-university competition organised by Carry1st as part of its COD Siku Zombo Tour.
USIU-Africa’s victorious squad comprised Leroy Barasa, popularly known as Raging, Bryan Bernard, Jesse Kariuki, Ajewole Pelumi and Miguel Koikai, also known as Denarius.
Dedan Kimathi University of Technology finished second, while Multimedia University took third place. The University of Eldoret completed the top four.
Other institutions that participated included Daystar University, Meru University of Science and Technology, Zetech University and Chuka University.
Speaking after the victory, USIU-Africa team member Jesse Kariuki said the achievement reflected the team’s preparation, coordination and determination throughout the competition.
“Winning this tournament is a great feeling, especially because we were competing against some very strong university teams. We put in the work, trusted each other, and remained focused throughout the competition. This victory is a proud moment for us and shows the level of talent and competitive spirit within university esports in Kenya,” Kariuki said.
The tournament was part of Carry1st’s grassroots COD Siku Zombo Tour, which ran from October 17 to 25, 2026, combining online gaming competitions with physical community activations.
The campaign provided players with opportunities to participate in online qualifiers, represent their universities, compete against other gamers and interact with content creators through gaming challenges.
It also featured Nganya pop-up activations, bringing mobile gaming into local entertainment spaces and giving fans opportunities to engage with the Call of Duty: Mobile community.
Carry1st Project Manager Adekoya ‘Andre’ Ayomide said the response from Kenyan gamers demonstrated growing interest in competitive mobile gaming and the need for more opportunities to develop the local esports scene.
“Seeing the passion and energy of the Kenyan COD community throughout the Siku Zombo tour has been incredible. From the campus rivalries to the unique Nganya activations, the turnout shows that there’s indeed active local enthusiasm for what we do,” Ayomide said.
“Our goal is to keep backing the local scene, presenting more competitive opportunities, and supporting the Kenyan COD community until it reaches its full potential on both regional and global stages,” he added.
The competition brought together university esports teams from different parts of the country before culminating in the grand finals at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) in Nairobi.
