The Roysambu Sub-County Primary and Junior Schools Ball Games Competition concluded over the weekend, with Marurui Primary School posting impressive performances in both the boys’ and girls’ basketball events.
The competition also featured football, volleyball, netball and handball.
According to Gabriel Muthungu Mwangi, the Games Master at Marurui Primary School, the school participated in all the sporting disciplines and performed well.
He said the school’s success is largely due to the close cooperation among teachers involved in sports, which has enabled Marurui to remain one of the leading schools in co-curricular activities.
In the boys’ basketball finals, Roysambu Primary School emerged as champions. Garden City Primary School finished as first runners-up, Marurui Primary School came in second runners-up, while Wonderland Primary School finished third runners-up.

In the girls’ basketball finals, Mountain View Primary School were crowned champions. Marurui Primary School finished as first runners-up, Wonderland Primary School came in second runners-up, while Kamiti Primary School took third runners-up.

Muthungu said Marurui Primary has made significant investments in sports, including golf, which is offered at the school. The learners regularly train at the Windsor Golf Club course in Kiambu County.

Following the conclusion of the sub-county competition, the teams were expected to advance to the sub-regional level as they seek qualification for the Central Region championships.
The Games Master noted that the strong partnership between parents and teachers has contributed greatly to the school’s achievements in both sports and academics.
Marurui Primary School is also well known for Taekwondo, with many learners actively participating in the martial art.
Muthungu added that participation in sports has played a key role in the school’s strong academic performance, saying sporting activities help learners remain mentally alert, disciplined and focused in class.
