Kiambu Governor, Kimani Wamatangi, has launched the ‘Kazi na Boda’ project in Githurai, urging boda boda riders to form SACCO cooperative groups.
The initiative, launched on Thursday, March 12, brought together riders from Mwiki, Kahawa Sukari, Kahawa Wendani, Kiuu, and Mwihoko, with Kiambu County allocating Sh 1 million to each ward.
“I will ensure that every ward in Kiambu County receives its allocation to develop economically,” Governor Wamatangi explained. He emphasized the importance of motivating riders to advance themselves economically and promised to continue supporting them to achieve their goals.
Riders form cooperatives
Governor Wamatangi highlighted that supporting boda boda riders has become an economic engine nationwide. He encouraged riders to unite and also inspire youth joining the boda boda sector.
Boda boda leaders confirmed that they have formed joint groups, using M-Pesa Paybill to pool their funds. They noted that the system has brought transparency to their investment approach. Some of their achievements include jointly purchasing a piece of land worth Sh 9.4 million.
