A heated exchange erupted in Parliament on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, after National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wa and his minority counterpart, Junet Mohammed, accused former Budget and Appropriations Committee chair Ndindi Nyoro of disproportionately allocating development funds to his Kiharu constituency at the expense of other regions.
Junet Mohammed, the Suna East MP, took a strong stance against Nyoro, alleging that some counties had received continuous funding for projects while others had been neglected. “There are some counties that have money all year round, yet there are others that haven’t received a single cent to tarmac any roads,” he stated.

The accusations centered on claims that Nyoro, during his tenure as chair of the Budget Committee, used his position to direct more funds to his constituency, allegedly constructing prestigious schools and roads while other constituencies struggled with limited resources.

“The Chair of the Budget Committee used his advantageous position to allocate himself higher funds than the rest of us. Which MP here could build the prestigious classes he built in his constituency?” Junet questioned.
In response to the allegations, Ichung’wa emphasized the need for fairness in budget allocations moving forward, warning that Parliament would not allow any leader to misuse their position for personal or regional benefit. “We have now reconstituted a new Budget and Appropriations Committee. Let me be on record: it will not be business as usual. This House will not sit back and allow members who sit in that committee to use the positions they hold to appropriate money to only their constituencies at the expense of other Kenyans,” he warned.
Junet further issued a stern warning, suggesting that if the newly constituted Budget Committee continued the same practices, Parliament might have to take drastic measures. “We will not hesitate to remove any member who behaves like that. If the Budget Committee does its business like the previous one, the only solution is to convert the 349 members into a Budget Committee!” he declared.
