Nyandarua Woman Representative Faith Gitau is assembling a formidable team of popular figures across the county to spearhead her 2027 gubernatorial bid.
Her squad includes individuals who have also declared interest in parliamentary seats, combining local influence with campaign support to push her quest for a historic first—becoming Nyandarua’s first woman governor.
The momentum behind her campaign was evident during a successful UDA rally last Friday at Manunga Catholic Church ground in Kipipiri constituency, which drew around 2,000 people.
The gathering marked a turning point for UDA in a county that has shown resistance to the party since the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Several team members boldly endorsed Gitau’s bid, signaling a strong local backing.
Key allies and political endorsements
Former county officials Kieru Wambui, a two-term Gatimu Ward MCA, and Murani Ngugi, a former county minister, confirmed plans to contest the senatorial seat held by John Methu, a staunch Gachagua supporter. “When I go to the Senate, I will make sure the county gets enough funds so that you as governor can deliver to the people of Nyandarua,” Kieru told Gitau during the rally.

The event also saw endorsements from local MPs, top national UDA officials, and MCAs, indicating Gitau may be the party’s preferred gubernatorial candidate. MPs present included George Gachagua (Ndaragwa), Kwenya Thuku (Kinangop), and David Kiaraho (Ol Kalou), with Gitau noting that Kenya and Kiaraho, though Jubilee legislators, attended as “friends of UDA.” Kwenya Thuku also pledged, “Come 2027, I will stand on the party of the government,” signaling his intent to defend his parliamentary seat under the UDA banner.
Top UDA officials, including Secretary General Omar Hassan, Treasurer Japheth Nyakundi, CEO Nicodemus Bore, and Director of Membership Samuel Mwangi, attended the rally—the first major gathering of UDA supporters in Nyandarua since its 2021 entry into the county. With Gitau’s strong team and visible momentum, the 2027 gubernatorial race in Nyandarua promises a politically charged New Year.
