Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and his Githunguri counterpart Gathoni Wamucomba have revealed their secrets to emerging the best performing MPs in the country.
On Wednesday, 12th February 2025, the two were ranked the best male and female MPs countrywide, by the research firm Infotrak.
Infotrak ranked Babu as the best performing MP by scoring a 72% followed closely by Kiharu’s Ndindi Nyoro, who got 71%.
Kabuchai’s Joseph Kalasinga got 62% while Wamuchomba was ranked the best woman MP with 61% and fifth nationally.
According to Babu, he scored highly his due to ability to solve simple and complex challenges that his constituents go through, by initiating various projects in Embakasi East.
“I was sure of being number one because when Almighty God gave me an opportunity to serve, I knew that he put all the instruments in my hands to deliver to his people,” Babu said.
He said that he chose to deliver to his people because they have bestowed him with trust, when they voted him as their MP in 2017 and in 2022 for the second time.
Rising from the bottom to being the best woman MP, Wamuchomba, revealed that this was not a surprise since she was confident to hit the same spot for the second time.
“I’m so honoured to receive the news that I am one of those rated as best performers in the National Assembly of Kenya. I expected it because I have worked for the great people of Githunguri, Kiambu and Kenya,” said Wamuchomba.
She said that her scores have been improving since she was elected as Kiambu Women Representative in 2017.
Infotrak Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Angela Ambitho said the results were centered around various indicators revolving around development, utilization of funds and accessibility, and it was fully a constituency-based process.
“The elected leader’s performance index is a very simple process. We basically leave respondents to determine and decipher based on the interactions with their leaders what it is they feel the performance of that leader is,” said Ambitho.
She added that they also look into the legislative duties that the legislators undertake, fighting for the rights of their constituents and visibility in the media.
