The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced the opening of applications for temporary election jobs ahead of the by-elections scheduled for February 26, 2026.
In a public notice released on Wednesday, January 21, the commission said it is seeking to recruit support electoral trainers, presiding officers, deputy presiding officers, and polling clerks.
Interested applicants have until Monday, January 26, 2026, to submit their applications through the IEBC recruitment portal at jobs.iebc.or.ke.
Responsibilities
According to the commission, support electoral trainers will play a key role in preparing presiding officers, their deputies, and polling clerks. The training will focus on polling processes, vote counting, and tallying procedures.
Their responsibilities will also include organizing training venues, preparing and distributing training materials, coordinating with other trainers, and overseeing the collection, security, and circulation of election training materials at various levels.
Presiding officers and deputy presiding officers will be responsible for managing polling stations and supervising all voting activities.

They will also issue election materials to polling clerks and submit final results to the constituency returning officer.
Polling clerks, on the other hand, will assist in setting up polling stations and counting centres, confirm voter eligibility before ballots are issued, and support presiding officers during the sorting and counting of votes.
Under the proposed pay structure, support electoral trainers and presiding officers will earn Ksh2,000 per day, while deputy presiding officers will receive a daily allowance of Ksh1,800.
How to apply
Interested Kenyans are required to log on to the IEBC website at https://www.iebc.or.ke/, click on the “Work With Us” tab, select “Vacancies,” then proceed to “Job Listings” to apply under the relevant category.
Upcoming by-elections
The recruitment exercise comes after the IEBC earlier confirmed that four by-elections will take place on February 26, 2026.
IEBC chairperson Erastus Ethekon announced on December 20, 2025, that the scheduled polls include a parliamentary by-election in Isiolo South constituency. The seat fell vacant following the death of Mohamed Tubi, who was elected during the 2022 General Election.

The commission also said it will conduct two Member of County Assembly (MCA) by-elections in Mbeere North constituency, namely in Muminji and Evurore wards. These positions became vacant after the sitting MCAs resigned to contest parliamentary seats in the November 27 by-elections.
In addition, the IEBC has scheduled an MCA by-election for West Kabras ward in Malava constituency, Kakamega County, to be held on the same day.
