National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has sensationally alleged that Githunguri MP Gathoni wa Muchomba has been relaying political intelligence to the State on the activities of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Ichung’wah, who is also the Kikuyu MP, made the remarks on Saturday, September 13, when Wa Muchomba, alongside other legislators, visited his residence to condole with him following the passing of his father, Mzee Isaack Ichung’wa Ngugi. The elder Ngugi, who died last week, is being laid to rest today.
In a veiled attack against the legislator, Ichung’wah hinted that Wa Muchomba had shifted allegiance and was now serving as an insider against her former political ally.
“Honourable Gathoni wa Muchomba usually tells us how things are transpiring on the other side,” Ichung’wa said in reference to the former Deputy President’s camp.
Wa Muchomba’s shift draws fire
Wa Muchomba, once a key supporter of Gachagua, has in recent months drifted into the emerging Kenya Moja Alliance. The alliance brings together opposition-leaning leaders such as Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and has presented itself as a Third Force ahead of the 2027 general election.

Her appearance at Ichung’wa’s home reignited online hostilities against her. Shortly after posting photos of herself at the condolence visit on her social media platforms, her page was flooded with angry reactions. A section of her followers branded her a “betrayer” and a “political sellout,” accusing her of abandoning the Gachagua-led faction at a critical moment.
The backlash was so intense that the legislator was forced to disable the comments section of her posts.
Past revelations confirmed
Newsflash had earlier exclusively reported on Wa Muchomba’s quiet exit from Gachagua’s political camp. Sources at the time indicated that she was seeking to forge an alternative political path, distancing herself from the perceived hardline politics surrounding the former Deputy President.
Saturday’s remarks by Ichung’wa appeared to confirm these reports, further cementing speculation that Wa Muchomba has become a key link between the State and Gachagua’s rivals.
Despite repeated attempts to obtain her side of the story, Wa Muchomba did not respond to Newsflash’s inquiries. Her silence has only fueled more questions about her true political positioning as the country inches closer to another heated election cycle.
Questions over Kenya Moja Alliance
The fresh revelations have also cast doubts on the credibility and political independence of the Kenya Moja Alliance. Though its leaders have branded it as a formidable Third Force ahead of the 2027 polls, analysts argue that its internal dynamics and alliances may reveal otherwise.
Speaking to Newsflash, political commentator Joseph Ndung’u said the latest developments highlight the hidden interests shaping emerging coalitions.

“This simply indicates that to a greater extent, the emerging political formations are not fully independent as their leaders claim, but they are pushing for various interests,” said Ndung’u.
According to him, Ichung’wa’s claim reinforces the perception that Wa Muchomba’s move may not be a purely ideological realignment but a strategy influenced by external pressure and State interests.
